Macushield
The macula is the central part of the retina responsible for your detailed, central vision. Why Macular Pigment Matters
Macular pigment acts as a natural filter, protecting the delicate photoreceptor cells in the macula from damage caused by blue light and oxidative stress. It is made up of three carotenoids: Lutein, Zeaxanthin and Meso-Zeaxanthin.
Research has shown that higher levels of macular pigment are associated with better visual performance and a lower risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Unfortunately, the body cannot produce these carotenoids on its own and they must come from your diet or supplementation.
This is where Macushield comes in. It is the only supplement that contains all three macular carotenoids in a single capsule, helping to rebuild and maintain your macular pigment.
Lutein
Found in dark leafy greens like kale and spinach. Lutein is concentrated in the outer ring of the macular pigment and acts as a key antioxidant.
Zeaxanthin
Found in orange and yellow peppers, sweetcorn and eggs. Zeaxanthin is concentrated in the mid-peripheral macula.
Meso-Zeaxanthin
The most potent antioxidant of the three, concentrated at the very centre of the macula. Rarely found in a typical diet, which is why supplementation can be beneficial.
